Swimming

As part of the National Curriculum, we ensure that there are opportunities for the children to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. We therefore have the opportunity for KS2 to participate in swimming lessons. We want the children to learn to

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

The children in KS2 are all looking forward to their swimming lessons at Darwin Court Swimming Pool.

See what some children had to say about their first lesson…

“It was my first time swimming. The water was so warm. I want to get in again.”

“The first time I got in I was a bit scared but the second time I went on my back. It was so fun. The water went all over me.”

“I felt very proud of myself.”

“At first I felt scared, then proud I went on my back.”

“I am looking forward to not using the noodle next time.”

“I am looking forward to jumping in.”

“I was happy doing the paddling with the teacher. It was fun having a swimming lesson altogether.”

“It felt scary when I first tried. I was very nervous but then I got it and felt ok.”

“Well I found it quite easy”

“I found it really cool and it was really deep! Anna was so good!”

“I found it scary and I was nervous at first, but now I feel okay,”

“It was fun! When we were lining up I was scared but the teacher really helped me. I liked it when the water went all over me.”

“I felt a bit scared doing in the deep water but once I was used to it I felt so calm floating in the water.”

“It was calming when we first went in,”

We are pleased that the children enjoyed the experience and looking forward to hearing about their progress with their swimming skills!
