the colour monster

Over the past few weeks, the children in Reception have been focussing on understanding their feelings and emotions through one of our favourite stories, The Colour Monster. This wonderful book has helped us explore the different emotions we all experience and the colours associated with them. Through this, we’ve learned how to show empathy towards one another and understand how people might feel inside.

As part of this learning journey, we had fun mixing colours! Using primary colours, we discovered that when we mix blue and yellow, we make green, and when we mix red and blue, we get purple! This colourful exploration sparked creativity and curiosity, allowing us to express our emotions through art.

In Literacy, the children enjoyed drawing their favourite Colour Monsters and talking about how their monsters were feeling and why. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect art with emotional expression.

In Maths, we have been practicing our counting skills using a counting stick, singing number songs, and exploring different arrangements with cubes and Numicon. This hands-on experience helped us notice patterns in numbers, making Maths both fun and engaging!

We are proud of how much our students have grown in understanding their emotions and developing their skills in Maths and Literacy. Keep up the great work!
