Autumn and Celebrations (Rec)

This half term, our topic is ‘Autumn and Celebrations.’ We began by learning about Diwali and Bonfire Night, which helped us appreciate different cultures and religions. We kicked off our Diwali celebration by tasting poppadoms, naan bread, mango chutney, and raita, with our favourite being the refreshing mango lassi! We also danced to Indian music, made diva lamps, created Rangoli patterns, and enjoyed the story of Rama and Sita. For Bonfire Night, we watched firework displays, learned the names of different fireworks, and created our own firework art with oil pastels. We even learned a firework poem!

We’ve also been exploring Autumn by looking for signs of the season. On a nature walk around the playground, we discovered falling leaves that change colour. We collected different types of leaves, talked about their names, and sorted them by colour.

In Phonics, we’ve been working on recognising, writing, and blending sounds to form words, as well as practising correct letter formation to help with our writing. In Maths, we’ve been practising counting and recognising numbers, using number cards and unifix cubes to understand that each number represents a different quantity.
