Y5 Take a Walk Down ‘Conscience Alley’

In English, we read our new text, The Caravan, and explored some of the exciting vocabulary. Then, we got stuck into two fun activities to help us dive deeper into the story.

First, we created a ‘Conscience Alley’ to explore the warning in the story: “Don’t go playing by the pylon.” We split into two groups to form an alley in the classroom. As someone walked down the alley, one side gave reasons to follow the warning, while the other gave reasons to ignore it. By the end, we all agreed that staying safe is way more important than a bit of fun—getting electrocuted is definitely not worth it!

Next, we tried ‘Talking Pictures’ to summarise key events. Each group acted out a scene from the story as a freeze frame. Then, we stepped out of our scenes to speak as our characters, sharing their thoughts and feelings. It really helped us connect with the story and its characters!
