Do Woodlice Prefer Damp or Dry Conditions? (y2)

This week, Year 2s had fun investigating the living habits of woodlice with a fascinating experiment!

Working in groups, each team had a specific role. Some of us traced around petri dishes, others carefully cut out paper towels, and a few made sure the towels were damp. Once everything was set up, we began our investigation.

Using a timer, we stopped every minute to count how many woodlice were in the damp section and how many were in the dry section.

Robyn’s class observed that woodlice generally preferred the damp part of the petri dish. However, Sarah’s class had a trickier time, as the woodlice moved between sections constantly—and a few adventurous ones even escaped!

This fun experiment taught us about woodlice habitats and how teamwork helps with science investigations. Why not try it yourself and see what you find?
