rocking our science lesson (Y3)

Year 3 have spent this half term’s science lessons investigating rocks and soils. We have learnt all about how different types of rocks are formed and the children are now experts in how sediment creates layers of sedimentary rock that can preserve fossils. In fact, they even created their own information videos about this process! In this week’s lesson we discussed how different rocks break down and create soils. The children were able to observe, touch and even smell the difference between loam, clay and peaty soils. We even investigated how efficient each soil is at drainage and recorded our results using a bar chart.
