London’s burning! (Y2)

This week, Year 2 had an exciting (and slightly scary!) opportunity to see what happens when fire spreads. As part of our learning about the Great Fire of London, we built our own model houses—just like the wooden ones in 1666. Then, we set them alight to watch how quickly fire can spread!

The Great Fire of London started in a bakery on Pudding Lane and spread rapidly because the houses were made of wood and straw and they were built very close together. It lasted for four days, destroying much of the city, but luckily, only a few people were hurt.

Watching our own houses burn was amazing but also a bit shocking—it really showed us why fires can be so dangerous! This was a great way to understand why fire safety is so important today.
