mission: material detectives (y1)

This term in science, our focus has been on everyday materials. The children have been learning to recognise the difference between objects and the materials they are made from, helping them understand more about the world around them.

To put their detective skills to the test, they set off on a special mission around the playground. Their task? To search for different objects and identify the materials used to make them. They discovered wood, metal, plastic, glass, and rubber and had lots of fun discussing why different materials are chosen for different purposes.

Why is metal used for railings? Why is rubber used for tyres? Through their investigations, the children developed their scientific thinking and observation skills in a fun and engaging way.

We can’t wait to continue exploring materials and their properties as the term goes on!
