CLay adventures (Y2)

Year 2 have been getting creative with clay this half term! We began by exploring how to shape clay using just our hands, experimenting with rolling, pinching and squeezing it into different forms. This helped us understand how the material moves and feels.

Next, we learned how to make our own pinch pots. We carefully pressed our thumbs into a ball of clay and then shaped the sides to create a small bowl. Once our pots were formed, we focused on how to join pieces of clay securely. We used a special technique called scoring and slipping—scratching the surface and adding a little watery clay (called slip)—to attach our decorations. Some of us added handles, patterns, or creative designs to make each pot unique.

It was a brilliant hands-on experience, and we had so much fun learning new skills!
