Year 1s have been exploring capacity in our maths lesson! We were learning that capacity is how much a container can hold and we began exploring this using water.
We had a range of different containers, some made for measuring and some with strange shapes and sizes. Before we filled them with water, we estimated the containers capacity- some containers we measured using cups, spoons and actual measuring equipment. Then we filled the container with water, counting the number of cups/spoons it took to fill.
It was interesting to find out that just because one container ‘looked’ bigger, didn’t mean it’s capacity was greater!
