Lights, shadows, action! (Y3)

This term, our science topic has been all about Light and Shadows—and what better way to explore it than by making our very own shadow puppets!
The children have been learning how shadows are formed when an object blocks light. They experimented with different materials to discover which ones were transparent, translucent, or opaque. After understanding how light travels in straight lines and how shadows can change size depending on the distance and angle of the light source, they put their knowledge into action.

Each child designed and created their own shadow puppet using card, sticks and plenty of imagination! From animals and mythical creatures to creative characters of their own, the puppets were as unique.

We finished the project by putting on mini puppet shows using torches and white screens. The children had great fun watching their creations come to life and observing how moving the puppet changed the shape and size of the shadow. It was a fantastic, hands-on way to reinforce their learning and encourage creativity at the same time.
Well done to all the children for their brilliant work and enthusiasm!
