Wildlife Wonders (Reception)

Over the past few weeks, our Reception children have been busy discovering the beauty of the natural world.

We began with a visit to the Wildlife Garden Centre in East Dulwich, where the children explored different habitats and saw how nature thrives. They stepped inside the greenhouse to see vegetables like tomatoes and cucumbers growing and took part in a thrilling minibeast hunt! Using magnifying glasses and “bush bashing,” they uncovered beetles, locusts, ladybirds and spiders. Pond dipping was another highlight, where the children discovered leeches, newts and water beetles.

Back in the classroom, the children cared for caterpillars, watching them grow and transform into butterflies, which we later released into the wild.

Finally, in our own school garden, the children have been finding ladybirds and snails, carefully creating safe homes for them while learning to respect all living creatures.
