Reception adventures begin

What a fantastic start we’ve had to Reception at Michael Faraday!

The children have settled in beautifully and are already beginning to build lovely friendships with their new peers. We’ve spent time getting to know our daily routines and learning the boundaries of our classroom environment – and the children are taking it all in their stride.

Our topic for this half term is “Ourselves and All About Me”. To begin our learning, we read the story “So Much” by Trish Cooke – a heartwarming story that celebrates the joy of family life. The children have enjoyed drawing pictures of their families and have also had a go at labelling their special drawings. Inspired by the story, the children have been busy in the creative area making colourful party decorations and accessories.

The children have also been practising writing their names with growing confidence!

In Maths, we’ve been focusing on recognising numerals and matching them to the correct quantities.

We’ve also begun our Little Wandle phonics journey! This week, we have been learning the graphemes s, a, t, and p. The children have enjoyed finding words and objects that begin with each of these sounds.

It’s been a joyful and busy start to Reception life, and we couldn’t be prouder of how well the children have adapted. We’re so excited for the weeks ahead, filled with even more exciting learning opportunities and discovery!
