In computing, the children in Year 4 have been practising collaborative learning online. We first demonstrated how chaos can unfold when a collaborative document is open to all with no rules about participation. Children discovered that their writing was being deleted and typed over by others! We quickly realised that successful collaboration requires ground rules and mutual respect and patience.
We practised this by typing up a part of our English story and sharing it with a peer. The peer then commented on the work to suggest any edits and the its owner was able to respond to those suggestions in their own time. We will soon be trying to collaborate on a presentation using Google Slides, really stretching our computing skills!
