Staying Safe, Standing Strong (Y6)

Year 6 were invited to take part in the Southwark Junior Citizens scheme. We participated in a range of scenarios in order to support us to be good citizens and stay safe in our local area. Each workshop was run by important members of our society who each play a role in keeping us safe: London Fire Brigade, TFL, the police, Southwark trading standards, road safety and money safety experts. In each scenario the children learnt an important aspect of staying safe and keeping each other safe. As our year 6 children are preparing for secondary school, much of the learning was about staying safe using public transport and the roads. We also explored how to avoid purchasing counterfeit goods, having money stolen via scams and getting involved in antisocial behaviour. The trip was extremely useful in preparing our year 6 children to stay safe and continue being good citizens.
