Year 6 have kicked off the new school year with an exciting art project called “Make My Voice Heard.” As part of this project, the children have been exploring different mark-making techniques, as well as the use of pattern and symbolism to express ideas through art.
One of the highlights for the students was experimenting with a technique called chiaroscuro—an Italian term meaning light and dark. Using charcoal, they created striking areas of shadow and light, giving their lettering a 3D effect that really made their work pop off the page.
Once they had mastered these techniques, the children carefully selected elements from their learning to include in their final piece, choosing a range of materials to bring their ideas to life. It was inspiring to see their creativity and individuality shine through, making this a truly engaging start to the year!
