Cracking the code (Y2)

This half term, Year 2 have been learning about the role of computers. We used a drawing programme to produce a diagram of the different parts of a computer. We talked about inputs and outputs and designed our own robots, deciding what their inputs and outputs might be. Next, we analysed a computer programme and worked out which keys made the on-screen dinosaur perform different actions. We had a go at writing our own instructions to make the dinosaur move. Most recently, we played a whole-class game which recreated the role of computers in supermarkets. Some of us were shoppers, some of us were the cashiers ‘scanning’ the items and some were database operators, keeping track of what stock had been sold and highlighting when the shop needed to order some more.
