Year 4 have worked really hard researching, designing and creating their own pavilions! Inspired by the world expo, the children designed a pavilion that represented a theme of their choosing.
We practised building structures with clay initially, so that we could investigate the pitfalls of trying to create a 3D structure. Through this, we developed some strategies to strengthen our structures, such as building each wall first and then assembling, as well as strengthening the corners with triangles.
The children first built their structures, with most selecting cardboard rods or lolly sticks for this task. They then applied cladding of various materials to both strengthen and decorate the internal frame.
Both Y4 teachers were so proud of the children’s determination and resilience – this was a really challenging task and no one gave up or admitted defeat. We are so proud of our finished pavilions and can’t wait to show them off to our parents in our open afternoon!
