celebrations! (Reception)

What an exciting and busy half term it has been in Reception! Our topic has been Celebrations, and the children have enjoyed a wide range of creative learning experiences both indoors and outdoors.

We began our topic by exploring different types of celebrations. In the garden, the children worked with Barbara to create beautiful bonfire art. They collected natural materials such as leaves and sticks and then added their own creative touches by tearing tissue paper to represent bright, glowing flames. The bonfire looked fantastic!

For Remembrance Day, the children used a printing method to create their own poppy artwork. They also used plasticine to create 3D images of poppies. The bright colours really stood out, and the finished pieces looked truly lovely.

In phonics, we’ve been working hard on reading and writing simple sentences. The children practised orally rehearsing their sentences first saying them out loud before writing them down. We have also begun to focus on using important punctuation skills, including capital letters, finger spaces, and full stops. It has been wonderful to see the children’s confidence grow!

The children created some wonderful winter observational drawings. Using video tutorials, they followed step-by-step instructions to draw their own snowmen – each one full of personality!

We also had our eyes tested by a vision screener, which was an interesting experience. We talked about how important our eyesight is and how looking after our eyes helps us learn, play and stay safe.

It has been a fantastic half term full of creativity, exploration, and joyful learning. We are so proud of how much the children have achieved and look forward to even more exciting adventures next term!
