from fire to frost! (Y2)

Last week, Year 2 visited St Paul’s Cathedral. This was part of our History topic on the Great Fire of London. We arrived and were met by our guides, who showed us round this wonderful building. We recapped some important events of the Fire and played a fun game where we had to pretend to put out the fire using just leather buckets filled from the River Thames. We learned about some of the important people involved in the rebuilding of St Paul’s. Some pupils dressed up as Christopher Wren and King Charles II and we saw where Christopher Wren was buried. Our guides showed us the magnificent dome and after admiring it by lying on the floor, we began to climb it! We climbed hundreds of stone steps to reach both the Whispering Gallery and then later, the Stone Gallery, from where we had a magnificent view of the London skyline.

It was a fantastic trip, made extra exciting by an unexpected burst of snowfall, meaning that we even included a quick snowball fight in the day’s itinerary!
