Year 4 Kate’s Class were lucky enough to be able to participate in a Zoom with renowned children’s author, Ross Montgomery!
Ross spoke about several of his books including the award-winning, “I am Rebel”, “Ten Delicious Teachers” and his newest novel, “Small Wonder”. He shared with us an exciting snippet of Small Wonder that made us all desperate to find out what happens to main character Tic – will he be able to save his little brother and his kingdom?
Ross also shared some of his top tips about writing stories – most importantly, get that idea out of your head and onto the paper! He emphasised how real authors rewrite stories many times and how characters’ names and even their species sometimes change! He reminded the children that the most important thing is to remember the story is there and the details can come later. He also shared a fantastic tip about building a story based on a map, imagining where a character will travel at each point in their journey.
The children left the session excited to try out some of his ideas and inspired to write. We are hoping to get some more of Ross’ books (we already have lots!), including copies of Small Wonder, into the library soon.
