abstract adventures (y3)

In Art this term, Year 3 created imaginative playground sculptures using cereal boxes and recyclable materials. The children explored sculpting techniques such as twisting, folding and rolling to turn flat card into exciting 3D forms.

They were encouraged to think about abstract shapes, focusing on how simple forms could represent playground equipment rather than trying to make it look realistic. We took inspiration from the work of Robert Morris, looking at how his bold, abstract sculptures use shape and space to create impact.

Throughout the project, the children experimented, problem-solved and adapted their designs as they worked. The finished sculptures are full of creativity and show how everyday materials can be transformed into expressive works of art.
