As part of culture day, Year 4 were so lucky to have Lila’s mum visit and tell us all about Rio in Brazil where she’s from. Gabriela told us a beautiful story from her culture and shared a song and dance that was about bringing happiness. She also brought in some cacao to share with the children. She explained that the cacao plant is where chocolate comes from but the drink was made with just cacao and sugar so was a little bitter. It definitely had mixed reactions among the children!
We finished with some questions and the children were interested to know more about the indigenous people living around the Amazon. Gabriela explained that her bracelets were made by one of these tribes and bring her protection.
