In year 6, we have been learning about World War Two in our history lessons. During a recent trip to the Imperial War Museum, we were amazed to see a life sized Anderson Shelter that was used to provided some safety during air raids. We were inspired to make our own using a range of resources like art straws, lolly pop sticks, card and tissue paper. Working in our kagan groups, we made sure that each member of our teams contributed by sharing out the tasks.
First we designed our shelters and made a plan, then we made them as a team. Some teams had to revise their plans as their original ideas did not work and this provided a good opportunity for problem solving as well as team work. We aimed to make shelters that were strong and realistic as well as adding areas for growing vegetables which was strongly encouraged by the government at the time due to rationing.
