Year 4 have had a fantastic start to the year! Ibrahim and Kate have been really impressed with how much the children have grown-up over the summer – they are already showing great resilience, team work and an appetite for learning.
We kicked off with a creative challenge – practising our drawing skills of using texture and tone to create a 3D effect. We discussed with Kagan talking chips the ways that artists Sarah Graham and Nicola McBride use cross-hatching and other shading techniques to add life and depth to their artwork.
Then, inspired by the work of Beatriz Milhaze, we created beautiful collages using coloured paper and sweet wrappers. We thought carefully about the composition of our pieces and ensured we had a focal point (or several) to draw the viewer’s eye to the piece. Next week we will finish this project by using our new-found drawing skills to sketch our collages and bring them to life. Keep an eye out for the art displays, coming very soon!
