From the School Council:
During playtime one day, we asked the children how they felt about spending time outside. While many enjoy the fresh air and fun, but then some children shared that the playground can sometimes feel a little too noisy and busy for them.
We listened closely and brought their thoughts to Riana. Together, we came up with a special idea: opening The House in the Woods during lunchtime as a peaceful, calming space for those who need a quieter break.
Riana loved the idea—and just like that, The House in the Woods opened its doors!
Now, some children have daily access to this safe and soothing space, while others can enjoy it on a weekly rotation by year group. Teachers help choose who would benefit from visiting and those children receive a special ticket to enter.
Inside The House in the Woods, you’ll find soft bean bags, gentle music and relaxing games like Jenga, puzzles and Guess Who. There are also cozy sensory items like playdough, squishies and cuddly teddies. To support emotional well-being, we’ve added Zones of Regulation displays, helping children better understand and express how they feel.
This nurturing space has already made a big difference for so many of our children—and we’re truly grateful to see them enjoying and benefiting from it.
