This week, Year 2 have been making fairground wheels. The aim was to create a stable structure so that the wheel rotates and the structure stands freely. We built stable bases out of junk modelling materials and attached our wheels to the axles. Finally, some of us created pods which turned on their own axels.
There was lots of problem solving involved in this unit of work. We had to overcome setbacks such as the holes in our wheels being too big for the axels or the pods not rotating properly, so that the poor people we’d drawn inside them ended up being turned upside down! Throughout, pupils showed excellence resilience, problem solving skills and effective partner work. We were all very pleased with our end results!
