Adding up to a brilliant start

The children have settled into their new classes brilliantly and have shown a great attitude towards their learning.

In Robyn’s class, we have been busy practising addition. The children used practical objects to represent the numbers in each number sentence and worked in pairs to count the total. They then recorded their number sentences on whiteboards, getting ready to work independently in their maths books.

We will continue to build our addition skills throughout Year One, gradually working with larger numbers. At home, you can support this learning by encouraging your child to practise simple addition and begin exploring totals beyond 10.

A great start to the year – we are looking forward to seeing their confidence with numbers grow!
