Year 3 have had an arty start! We’ve been practising our drawing skills by closely observing plants, seeds and bulbs and drawing from basic shapes before adding detail. The children have really got the hang of the shading grip (hold the pencil on its side, like you’re pinching it!) and are starting to notice how light and dark tones can be used to make objects appear 3D. We were inspired by the work of artists such as Sara Boccaccini Meadows and Yellena James, who use careful observation alongside abstract shapes and patterns to create beautiful images of plants and flowers.
Finally, the children had a go at creating digital art! We experimented with the website sketchpad to re-create some of our floral drawings on the iPads. I think you will agree these children are incredibly talented – we can’t wait to see what else they can do in the year to come!
