In Art this week, Year 3 have been learning all about Ancient Egypt and discovering how art was used to tell stories and record important events thousands of years ago. The children explored the importance of papyrus in Ancient Egyptian life and learned how early Egyptians created scrolls for writing and artwork.
Using parcel paper and a watery PVA glue mixture, the children carefully created their own papyrus-style paper, experimenting with texture and colour to mimic the look of real papyrus. They showed great patience and teamwork throughout the process, especially while layering and drying their materials.
Once their scrolls were ready, the children designed and painted their own beautiful Ancient Egyptian patterns, symbols and pictures inspired by hieroglyphics, pharaohs and traditional Egyptian art. They used bright colours, careful brush techniques and detailed drawings to bring their ideas to life. The finished artwork looks fantastic and has helped the children develop both their artistic skills and their understanding of Ancient Egyptian culture and history. We are incredibly proud of their creativity, effort and enthusiasm during this exciting topic!
