Choir club were SO lucky yesterday to be able to go all the way to the Barbican to see the National Open Youth Orchestra perform!
This orchestra is made up of young people, 90% of whom have disabilities, but absolutely do not let anything hold them back from making beautiful music.
The orchestra performed several pieces for us, from classics such as Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, to new music of their own composing such as, “Barriers” and “A Young Person’s Guide to Orchestra”. We couldn’t believe how talented these musicians were, with some performers only a few years older than our own Y6s! We especially enjoyed their last piece, which featured a section where we became part of the orchestra as we were encouraged to clap along and chant, “This is our orchestra!”.
We were also amazed to see a very special instrument called the Clarion, which can be played with only head movements! Keep an eye out in the videos and you might spot it.
Thanks so much to Catherine for organising this opportunity for us – we feel very privileged!
