What a wonderful start we’ve had to Reception at Michael Faraday!
The children have settled into their new environment so well and are already forming lovely friendships with their new classmates. We have been spending lots of time getting to know our daily routines, exploring our classroom and learning the expectations and boundaries that help us to learn and play together.
Our topic this half term is “Super Me!”. To start our learning, we shared the story Welcome- A book about friendship by Alison Green, where a host of friendly animals show us around and teach us all about friendship: how to laugh together, play together – and importantly, how to make friends again after a quarrel! All the skills that will help us to form positive bonds and to play and learn together throughout the year.
In Literacy, the children have been developing their early writing skills – practising writing their names and increasing their confidence at recognising and forming the letters. We have also begun our Little Wandle phonics journey! So far we have introduced s, a, t and p. They have enjoyed practising these sounds, writing the letters and identifying these initial sounds when playing ‘What’s in the box’.
In Maths, we have been exploring numerals and quantities. The children have enjoyed recognising different numbers, matching numerals to the correct number of objects and developing their understanding through practical and playful activities.
It has been such a positive and exciting start to Reception, and we are incredibly proud of how confidently the children have settled into school life. We have already seen so many wonderful moments of curiosity, kindness, independence and learning.
